Last Tuesday Apple had a Spring event where they made a slew of announcements on new products (most notably the new iMac in colors!). Keep reading to see what was announced to and get the skinny on the products.

Apple Card Family

Families can share the benefits of Apple Card now (see more here).

Podcasts

Apple announced a redesign of the Podcasts app and they are introducing a subscription for Podcasts where podcast creators can choose to offer paid, ad-free or freemium versions of their content.

Air Tag (via Find My)

Highlights

Apple now has a new accessory that can be attached to things to find things with a one year-long battery life. Its precision finding allows a precise direction to the Airtag, but all the data is anonymous.  Air Tag can be personalized (fun!) and has different accessories to attach to different items. Sounds like a pretty great gift for mother's day!

Price and availability

  • $29 for one or buy a 4 pack for $99
  • You can preorder now and it’s available on April 30

iMac with M1

Highlights

The iMac now comes in colors again and it's super thin. Seven colors and 11.5 mm thin to be precise.  The M1 allowed for a smaller logic board and two quiet, small fans which made for an overall 50% reduction in volume. It also has a 4.5K retina display that is 24” (with almost the same footprint as the previous generation 21.5” iMac).

The camera is now 1080p HD that performs better in low light and the iMac has a studio-quality mic. Apple boasted that it is the best mic and camera ever in a Mac for all those conference calls we are doing now.

Performance

  • 5 streams of 4k footage without dropping a frame
  • Support for up to 6k display
  • Magnetic power adapter
  • Ethernet port in the power adapter

Accessories

  • The keyboard, mouse, and trackpad can be color matched
  • New keys on the keyboard such as emoji, lock, Touch ID (making using Apple Pay easier for me on yet another device 🤦‍♀️)

Price and availability

  • Starting at $1299  for the four in-stock colors (green, pink, blue, and silver)
  • The rest of the colors are custom and start at $1499
  • You can preorder April 30th and it’s available second half of May

iPad Pro with M1

Highlights

The new iPad Pro promised to be a powerful tablet with features like an 8 core CPU (a 50% jump over the previous model), 40% faster graphics performance and adding thunderbolt for faster data transfers. It also has up to a 2TB storage capacity and supports 5G for faster data on the go. There is also an XDR display available on 12.9” iPad Pro with M1.

The camera is now an ultra-wide camera with “center stage” which will pan to keep you in the shot and zoom out (pretty great for casual Zoom get-togethers!).

Price and availability

  • $799 11 inch // $1099 for 12.9 inch
  • You can preorder April 30th and it’s available second half of May
